UK ’22 – London & Liverpool

London Calling!

Flying into the London Heathrow Airport, and even after flying all night, we were raring to go. The only thing that slightly slowed us down was getting used to driving on the opposite side of the road. It only took us about 10mins to successfully navigate out of the parking garage where we picked up our rental car.

Being our first time exploring London, we made sure to see all of the pomp and pageantry of the royal sights. Our hotel for the three nights overlooked Hyde Park, just a short walk from Kensington Palace and short drives to Westminster and Buckingham Palace. One of our favorite sights was the historical tour of Westminster Abbey where we saw graves and monuments for people like Charles Dickens and Henry the VIII.

The hallway above is in Westminster Abbey and dates back to 1066! Everything there was just so ancient, even street corners felt like they had history older than the States.

Above all the royal history, our #1 highlight in London was seeing Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at the Globe Theatre. Although it was a replica of the original Globe that was built and housed Shakespeare’s original plays in the 1600’s, the replica has everything designed just as the original. Even down to the thatched roof, which is the only thatched roof allowed in London after the Great Fire in 1666. Again, OLD! We enjoyed center seats on the top third level of the theatre, a memory we will hold on to forever.

Abbey Road

Beatles fans like us couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit the most famous recording studio in the world and the namesake for one of the best albums of all time! Even though it was a work week morning, there were still others there trying to get a pic while crossing the famous cross walk.

Where Beatlemania began

Abbey Road was just the beginning for us. Between the Cotswolds and Scotland, we spent one night in Liverpool to see where it all began for the Fab Four. The best of the best of course was the Beatles museum and seeing a show at the Cavern Club where the then Quarrymen, and later on the Beatles, played their early music. And at the end of the day, we slept it off at the Hard Days Night Hotel – fitting!

Where were we…?
