UK ’22 – Cotswolds

“To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.”

Jane Austen

After London, we drove due north to the beautiful English countryside – home to “Austenland” and cobblestone lanes curtained with ivy. Here we learned why Elizabeth Bennet of Pride and Prejudice preferred the muddy trails over stately manors, rain or shine. We also learned that we wouldn’t even get into the door of a restaurant without a reservation for every meal!

THE BREAD!!! During our stay we visited a farm store a couple times called Daylesford Organic that had literally rooms full of fresh bread, cheese, meat, and more. Of course, we took advantage of this happy situation! Croissants, baguettes, jams, cheeses, even candied walnuts – we got it all. And to top it all off, we watched the movie The Importance of Being Earnest the night before we left.

We stayed in a small stone inn called The Wild Rabbit, nestled in a small village called Kingham in the middle of the Cotswolds; an inspiration in itself for Kaylyn’s interior design eye. And speaking of interior design, we stopped in at many local antique shops where we picked up a few goodies.

The food we had was unforgettable, and we still talk about some of the dishes to this day. Down the road from Kingham we managed to get a table at The Hare in an even smaller village called Milton.

The Long and Winding Road…

Driving down each country road was usually serine, except when we found ourselves with another car on the road. Locals drive upwards of 50 mph on these incredibly narrow roads that feel like they should be one-way only. Things only got worse when a semi-truck would greet us around a blind corner, we don’t understand how they do it!

Where were we…?
