“Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, the hills of the Highlands forever I love.”
– Robert Burns
Leaving St Andrews, Scotland on the east coast, we trekked across the Isle to the northwest coast and across a bridge to the Isle of Skye! The scenery was breathtaking! Why try to describe, when we have the photos…

Probably the most scenic castle in all of Scotland is Eilean Donan.

We spent three days in a cozy cottage on the Isle of Skye – the island is actually pretty big and it takes about a full day of driving from top to bottom. Nearest to our cabin on the northwest corner of the island was the most dramatic and jagged landscape.

The area known as the “Quairing” has miles of hiking trails meandering between cliffs and sheep pastures. We went on multiple hikes and only a few steps into each trail, we really felt like we were in a different world.

Each night in our little cottage, we watched the waves through the window while burning wood in the fireplace. One night we could see a gang of little lambs chasing a goose back and forth across a neighboring property – turns out it was lamb season so we saw hundreds of lambs over the week.

Each corner of the island was picturesque, one of our favorite places (other than the Quairing) was this really long and narrow finger point with a lighthouse called Neist Point Lighthouse. The trail leading down to the lighthouse (about 1 mile one-way) was paved, half stairs and half smooth pavement so that the sheep could walk right next to us!

Out of all of the stops we made in the UK, this was the most adventurous and the most beautiful. Even though Dylan visited the Isle of Skye and St Andrews in 2012 with his parents – we would absolutely return!

Where were we…?
