Hood, Adams, Rainier & Three Sisters

Summer of ’23 has given us an amazing opportunity to set off on new adventures around the mountains of Oregon and Washington. Closest to Hillsboro, Mt Hood is only 1.5hrs away. Our favorite spot there is Lost Lake situated at the base of the mountain with tents, yurts and cabins.

Lost Lake, Mt Hood

We spent two nights in a yurt near the shores of Lost Lake. Well off the beaten path, Lost Lake is close to the base of Mt Hood and an amazing spot to spend a weekend. The area is remote enough to unplug but close enough to drive to after work. We’ve been making this place a frequent stop!

Mt Adams Wilderness

Mt Adams was the most remote wilderness we have camped in. Dirt roads for over an hour just to get to the campsite and no cell service for the whole weekend. This, of course, led to stellar star gazing and even green airglow. We spent the weekend with our friends Jake and Lesleeann, which made the trip even more wild!

Mt Rainier National Park

After our 3-day adventure here, we agreed that Rainier will be a yearly visit. Frankly there are too many photos for this post, so we have a whole dedicated page here!

We stayed in a small single cabin with a hot tub, which came in very useful after one very long day on the trails. Unlike Mt Hood or Adams, Rainier’s sheer size makes the surrounding area much bigger and better.

Three Sisters Wilderness

Our third outing like this of the summer, and we almost didn’t make it! We were right at the end of our ropes after only camping a few weeks earlier in Mt Adams, so we weren’t relishing another couple nights in a campground. However our new tent (the Wawona 6) is so luxurious that it made the nights tolerable!

The highlight was setting up chairs at Sparks Lake to watch the sunset. While we were there, we saw 4 deer grazing in the grass. We think there will be a backpacking trip in the future there!

Where were we…?
