After our trip in 2022, we desperately wanted to re-visit London and the flights made the most sense to take us through Heathrow before we made our way to Paris and then off to Switzerland. It was a quick 2 days and we packed in as much as we could summing up to these two highlights; the Tower of London and Borough Market.
London’s Bloody Tower
Day 1 was chop-full of history! Insanely old history, dating back to the 11th Century when the Tower of London was only made up of the “White Tower” that you see on the left. The tower used to be white washed so it could be visible passing down the River Thames. My favorite details was that the defenders would break down the wooden staircase (the only entrance) so to prevent invaders from breaking in.
On a more grim note, we also found ourselves in the same location where many beheadings and executions took place.
The Delicious Borough Market
We would be A-okay with staying in London for a week and have every meal prepared by trips to the Borough Market. Fresh bread, cheeses, veggies, meats, chocolates, pastries and all. Our favorites were the “toastie” sandwich with freshly melted raclette cheese.
Pair the Borough Market with these amazing restaurants, the Pig and the Butcher and Jacuzzi, and you have a complete culinary vacation!
