Yosemite ’25 – Glacier Point

Note to self – sunset at Glacier Point needs at least an hour arrival before sunset. It was BUSY! We barely snagged a parking spot in time for me to set up my tripod with only minutes to spare before the sun got just low enough.

It has been a long time dream to see sunset up at Glacier Point, with the low golden sun hitting the blunt face of Half Dome. Tricky thing is that the westward sky has to be as clear as possible for the light effect to come through. Any traces of clouds, haze or even smoke will diffuse light, causing the effect to weaken or not even appear.

As you can see above, the light came in very nicely, but it got too hazy at the lowest point of the sun. We didn’t get that crisp line of sunlight high up on the face of Half Dome, but pretty close! We’ll keep coming back to get another shot.

Where were we…?
