Yosemite ’25 – Bears!

Kaylyn and I have visited Yosemite six times, but until this trip, we had never seen a single bear. We credit our change in luck to Kaylyn’s mom, Sharri. She has a knack for bringing wildlife sightings on family trips, not to mention her luck with good weather.

I thought I had hit the jackpot early on during a drive to my Yosemite Falls hike, spotting a lone black bear meandering near the road. But that was just the beginning. Later, we saw another solitary bear, and eventually a mother bear with two playful cubs.

The mother and her cubs made multiple appearances throughout our visit. We spotted them three different times in completely different locations. The final sighting was right behind our cabin, wandering through the backyard. Thankfully, I happened to glance out the kitchen window before stepping outside!

Anytime we encounter wildlife with Kaylyn’s parents, it turns into a frantic scramble to document the moment. Sprinting from window to window, climbing up to the second story, or even standing on the toilet to get the perfect angle, anything goes!

Where were we…?
