After seeing the spectacular sights of Tunnel View, Half Dome, El Capitan, numerous waterfalls, and serene meadows time and time again, it still never gets old. Having seen Yosemite quite a few times, it was fun to use this full week to really study some subjects. Each of the grouped photos below are different field studies around Yosemite Valley in early evening through late dusk.
Stopping at a random picnic area along Tioga Pass on the way back from Tuolumne Meadows, Kaylyn and I found a roaring creek with a perfect rock to stand on with a tripod. I waited for a big enough cloud to cover the light over the moving water, and using a ND filter I was able to get up to 13 seconds of exposure. That’s how I got the smokey water effect.
To avoid crowds, Kaylyn and I drove deep into the valley to Cook’s Meadows and found a bridge with a perfect view of Half Dome with the Merced River flowing underneath. The mosquitos were ramped but it was worth hanging around well after dark.
